Don’t Fear High Visibility Line
High-visibility line is particularly useful in rivers, where obstacles make lure control critical.
A lot of times you can avoid the worst disaster a fisherman can have – colossal tangles – by using high-visibility line. Simply being able to keep your lines in sight lets you maintain better control and ensure your baits are tracking through the right areas, especially if you’re using boards or backtrolling.
High visibility line works particularly well when fishing for trout and salmon in the lower section of spawning rivers, where obstacles are littered everywhere and lure control is crucial. Use a short six-foot fluorocarbon leader connected to the high-vis main line with a small barrel swivel to keep the high visibility stuff from spooking shy biters. As an added bonus, the swivel prevents leaves and weeds from sliding down the line and impeding the action on your crankbait.
