A 12-foot-tall replica of a largemouth bass has been unveiled in downtown Eufaula, Alabama.
The giant bass, build with help from a grant from the Alabama Tourism Department, was created to honor the town's claim to be the bass capital of America. The tourism department also erected a historic marker nearby to celebrate the life of Eufaula resident and celebrated lure maker Tom Mann, originator of the Jelly Worm and hundreds of other well-known artificial baits. The giant bass has been named Manny in his honor.
Eufaula mayor Jack Tibbs expects the big bass to become a social media magnet for the town. Nearby Lake Eufaula has been the site of numerous bass tournaments, including Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) events and last year's Major League Fishing Challenge Cup. Just this week, the American Bass Anglers announced it will hold its Ray Scott Championship at Eufaula in 2019.
